Top marks for Stirlingshire Crematorium’s ‘Service and Staff’

A second inspection in the space of a few months saw Stirlingshire Crematorium achieve top marks for its Service and Staff.

The Crematorium Compliance Scheme Report was produced by the Federation of Burial & Cremation Authorities (FBCA).

Top marks were awarded in the areas of crematorium administration; ceremony facilities; grounds and memorialisation; and service and staff.

The FBCA inspector, Michael Day “…found the facility to be operating in accordance with the three key areas of compliance: 1. The Cremation Regulations 2009, relating to statutory documentation; 2. The Defra Process Guidance notes 5/12, relating to cremation; 3. The Code of Cremation Practice, relating to all aspects of the service.”

In addition, the Crematorium Inspector found an excellent level of service provision and did not feel it necessary to make any recommendations.

Stirlingshire Crematorium was also praised for its proactive approach to environmental issues.

The FBCA report comes just months after a Scottish regulatory inspector praised Stirlingshire Crematorium for providing a “first-class service to the local community and beyond.”

Robert Swanson QPM, Senior Inspector of Burial, Cremation and Funeral Directors (Scotland), said: “The Cremation Authority are fortunate in having such an enthusiastic, dedicated and professional team at Stirlingshire Crematorium, working under the direction of experienced management.”

Stirlingshire Crematorium is part of Westerleigh Group, one of the UK’s largest independent owners and operators of crematoria and cemeteries, with 40 sites in England, Scotland, and Wales, all set within beautifully landscaped gardens of remembrance which provide pleasant, peaceful places for people to visit and reflect.

Like all facilities run by the group, the Stirlingshire Crematorium team is committed to providing exceptional care to the bereaved, something borne out by the two positive inspection reports.

Westerleigh Group was the first cremation authority in the UK to adopt FBCA’s environmental policy in 2021.

Donnie Connor, manager at Stirlingshire Crematorium, said: “I am proud of everyone involved in the running of Stirlingshire Crematorium, to have earned two positive inspection reports this year.

“I was particularly pleased to see the FBCA inspector award full marks for Service and Staff, because this is at the very heart of everything we do, ensuring that Westerleigh Group colleagues provide exceptional service and care to the families we support, whether that is organising and delivering a funeral service to helping the bereaved memorialise their loved ones within our grounds – something we also earned full marks for.

“This inspection report is a welcome endorsement of the exceptional care we provide to the families we support. Two positive inspections hopefully demonstrates that our standards are consistently high, something we are very proud of.”
