New site manager at Great Glen Crematorium
Nature and animal lover Aleksandra Harris feels quite at home in her new role as site manager of Great Glen Crematorium which sits in the heart of the Leicestershire countryside.
The site is part of Westerleigh Group, which also played a part in why Aleksandra wanted this job.
Westerleigh Group is the UK’s largest owner and operator of crematoria and cemeteries, with 37 sites in England, Scotland, and Wales, all set within beautifully landscaped gardens of remembrance which provide pleasant, tranquil places for people to visit and reflect.
Aleksandra said: “I was attracted to the company’s values, and Great Glen Crematorium is in a beautiful setting, too. I love that it is set in the countryside, as I adore nature.”
Although this is her first role within Westerleigh Group, and her first site manager job, Aleksandra is no stranger to the bereavement sector.
She explained: “I previously worked for Central England Co-operative Funeral Care for six years, prior to which I worked in Central England Co-operative retail sector and Interpretation and Translation Services in Leicester City Council.
“My aim now is to continue the great work that my new team at Great Glen Crematorium has already been doing.
“I want to support my team of colleagues, funeral directors and, of course, local bereaved families by giving them an opportunity to say goodbye to their loved ones in the best, and most uniquely bespoke way possible.
“I’m looking forward to supporting my staff and the diverse community of Leicestershire in a very professional, yet compassionate, way.
“I believe we need to remove the stigma around cemeteries and crematoria. By proactively engaging in community work, people can learn that we are here to care for everyone, regardless of their personal beliefs or culture.
“We have all lost somoene close to us at some stage in our lives, and I want our local community to feel comfortable to express their grief and feel that they are able to ask questions, as well as get to know the team here.
“My message to the local community is that you are more than welcome to come and visit us here at Great Glen Crematorium; come in for a coffee and a chat.
“I am here, with my team, to answer any questions you may have, and to support the community in any way I can.
“I would be honoured to be able to help all the local bereaved families and to offer guidance and support to the wider community and funeral directors alike.”
