Second Chapel at Westerleigh Crematorium

Second Chapel at Westerleigh Crematorium

by Crematorium Editor Westerleigh News

The state of the art hospitality suite is set to be built within the grounds of Westerleigh crematorium and cemetery.

Planners described the design as ‘innovative’ and ‘outstanding’ with the grass roof attracting particular praise.  The development will include an impressive café with views across a new wildlife pond and the wide expanse of lawns and woodland which characterise the grounds at Westerleigh.

The café will serve regular visitors as well as providing a place for mourners to gather together in comfort before and after a funeral.

Three function rooms will offer privacy for those families who wish to hold a quiet, dignified wake after the funeral.  The rooms are divisible allowing parties as few as 20 and as large as 150 to hold an event close to the crematorium without the need to travel on to another venue.  The new service has been strongly supported by local FDs and clergy who recognised the need for a new choice; stylish and convenient.

A second chapel will also be built to provide a more intimate setting for smaller congregations.  Work is due to start in the first week of May with construction set to finish next February. Please click on the PDF documents below to view the plan and design of the build.

Once the second chapel is built we will need to name the existing chapel and the new chapel and we would be happy to hear your suggestions.
